PR2 description:

Design, development and piloting of an e-learning course for ECEC staff, with a focus on strengthening their attitudes, knowledge, values, and skills that are central to ensuring that ECEC settings are welcoming and inclusive of children with intellectual disabilities (Result 2).

This result will encompass the design, development, and piloting of an eLearning course for ECEC staff, with the aim to strengthen their attitudes, knowledge, values, and skills that are central to ensuring that ECEC settings are welcoming and inclusive of children with intellectual disabilities. The design of the e-learning course will be based on the R2 findings on the knowledge, skills gaps, and training needs of ECEC staff on this topic. Thus, the curricula will be highly relevant and specific to learners’ needs, roles, and responsibilities in professional life.

The e-Learning course consists of four themes/modules:

1) The core philosophy that underpins inclusive early childhood education and care systems;
2) Introduction to the EU quality framework for early childhood education and care, and other key EU policies in the sector;
3) Understanding cognitive and social development in children with intellectual disabilities, including autism, Down’s syndrome, fragile X syndrome and Williams syndrome;
4) Key principles in working with children with intellectual disabilities in ECEC settings.
